Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process for donating my vehicle?

1.  We ask that all drivable donations be delivered to our Menomonee Falls site between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.  If those times do not work for you, then please call ahead and we can try to set up an appointment at a more convenient time.

2.  When you deliver the vehicle to our site, you would then sign the title over to Ranch Community Services.

3.  In exchange for the title and keys, you will receive a “Donation Acknowledgement Form.”

4.  That is it!  It is fairly easy.

What documentation do I have to have?

You need to bring the title for the vehicle and the title must be clear…

1.      It must be a Wisconsin Title.

2.      There can be no liens against the title.

3.      The title must be in the donor’s name.

a.  If there are two names on the title, both individuals will need to sign the front of the title as the “SELLERS.”

Is my donation tax deductible?

  • Yes.  We will give you a “Donation Acknowledgment Form” at the time of your donation.  This form serves as proof to the IRS that you made a donation to a charitable organization.
  • Please consult with your tax preparer prior to making any donation to protect your best interest.

How much can I deduct?

  • The IRS requires RCS to notify you of the sale price of the vehicle.  You will receive a letter within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle indicating the sale price.
  • For further IRS information, refer to www.irs.gov and enter a search for "Tax law changes for exempt organizations".

What happens to my vehicle after I donate it?

  • Our mechanic will do a general inspection and may make minor repairs.
  • Some of our program participants may clean and detail the vehicle.
  • If there is not an immediate need for your vehicle, RCS will resell the vehicle.  All proceeds go to RCS and its various programs to support individuals with disabilities.
